East Coast Facing the Wrath of the Winds, the Rumble of the Rains, and the Hurling Debris of the Hurricane
Hurricane Earl is doing its best to make the News. Not only has its force resulted in Alerts and Warnings going out to those along its path, there are many people who would have vacationed over the holiday who are deciding to change their plans.
Travel destinations with all the resorts, hotels, and business attractions depend upon the tourist trade to make money and stay in business from year to year. When a major hurricane or serious storm gets in the way of a three day weekend trip, it really damages the bottom line for these places and the businesses that are catering to the traveler. Hurricane Earl doesn’t care…
The people care! Reservations are canceled, revenue dries up, and the cost of dealing with the debris from a raging storm sucks up the dollars for repairs and recovery. It’s not a profitable situation for the East Coast that ol’ Earl is visiting. When a hurricane chooses to travel to your town, the guest brings devastation rather than dollars for the kitty. It’s a good idea for the businesses to offer Survival Foods, water, re-building materials, repair services, candles, warm clothing, shelter from the storm, and discounts for weary travelers who simply could not escape the wrath of the storm. It’s a thought…an idea who’s time has come!
The hurling of debris leaves the streets, sidewalks, and the roadways empty. While rooftops are coming apart at the seams, while fences are flung far and wide, and while anything that’s not tethered down flies into the wild gusts; those who own property will have to clean it all up when it quiets down and the hurricane passes. It costs a pretty penny to clear the debris following a storm like little Earl.
If you are within the vicinity of North Carolina or the Tri-State area; then you want to be careful about where you go, how you get there, and what you take while you are in transit or stuck waiting out the storm. It’s a good idea to be able to find suitable shelter that is sturdy enough to weather the storm without the roof caving in, the walls falling down, or the utilities failing you.
The rains may render the roads impassable. Torrents of rain have a nasty habit of clogging the drains on the paved streets and trapping water and garbage which makes water levels rise…presenting roadway hazards that can block your routes or damage your vehicles. You will want to take Survival BackPacks with you filled with supplies that you might need when stranded on a road with no one in sight to help you. It’s not uncommon and it ruins a vacation or a trip out on the town.
This is the time to stay indoors, fix a good meal, and spend time with the people you love talking about how smart you are to have prepared for the hurricane sweeping by your door. The nods in agreement that are safe and secure are far better than the screaming from sheer terror while caught in the midst of frightening wind, rain, and whirling debris. You’ll hear harrowing stories about those who were not prepared in the News and your heart will go out to them. Just don’t be the family that the reporters describe in a horrific situation that risks life and limb!
